Erik Olson, Natural Aesthete—

Erik Olson

Cinematographer

A talented cinematographer, creative artist, and non-subscriber to seasonal conventions such as when it’s appropriate to wear toques or shorts, Erik Olson was born to carve out his own style. Erik sprung forth from a family of artists and creatives, including his father who worked as a producer, his sister who works as a magazine photographer, and pair of estranged older twin sisters known for acting roles on Full House. After studying physiotherapy in university, he realized he would find more fulfilment in a creative-minded career, and began working as a videographer, landing roles with Tara Yolan Productions, Golden Media, and Pela Case. In February of 2023, Erik found the loving embrace of Barbershop Films and sunk in. As a Cinematographer with Barbershop, Erik is responsible for operating or assisting with the camera, designing and constructing lighting setups, working with the director and client to achieve their desired aesthetic vision, as well as leading or collaborating with the post-production team on edits, design, and colour grading. Erik’s natural eye and aesthetic sensibility enable him to find the perfect visual approach for any type of production, composing and lighting each frame in a fashion that is both striking and natural. And, his steady and optimistic disposition ensures a harmonious production, even under the most high-pressed conditions. When Erik is not shooting with Barbershop, he typically finds himself doing something creative – be it drawing clowns, woodworking, playing music, or pushing the limits of urban beachwear.
